8 Mistakes That Cost Shoppers Their Reimbursement

Most reimbursements go through without incident. The ones that do not almost always fail for one of the reasons below, and every one of them is avoidable if you know about it before you buy rather than after.

1. Skipping the delivery photo

This is the big one. Uploading your receipt is not the last step. The reimbursement is approved on the receipt but released when you confirm the product actually arrived, usually with a quick photo of it. People upload the receipt, see their campaign marked complete, and assume they are done.

On Sparq, if that confirmation never arrives within 21 days the reimbursement forfeits back to the brand and you lose it. Reminders go out first, so the fix is simply to not ignore them. Take the photo when the parcel lands, before it goes in a cupboard.

2. Missing the window to buy

Claiming a slot is not the same as holding it indefinitely. There is a window to make the purchase, around 48 hours, because a slot you are sitting on is one another shopper cannot take. If you are not going to buy today, it is better to leave the slot for someone who will and take a different campaign later.

3. Forgetting the discount code

When a campaign gives you a code, the reimbursement is calculated against the discounted price. Check out without applying it and you have paid more than what will come back, and the difference is yours.

One specific trap: TikTok Shop codes only redeem inside the TikTok mobile app at checkout. They will not apply on desktop web. If a code refuses to work, that is almost always why.

4. Buying from the wrong store

The same product often exists on several marketplaces, and campaigns are tied to one specific storefront because the whole point is building sales history there. Buying the identical item somewhere cheaper does nothing for the brand and will not be reimbursed. Use the link on the campaign rather than searching for the product yourself.

5. Buying the wrong variant

Size, colour, pack count and bundle options all change the price, and the campaign is priced against a specific one. Picking the two-pack because it looked like better value means the amount you paid no longer matches what the campaign covers.

6. Cropping the receipt too tightly

A screenshot needs to show the order number, the product name, the date and the total. Crop out the total and nobody can verify what you actually paid. You will not be rejected for this, but it does mean a person has to look at it, which slows your money down for no reason.

7. Assuming tax and shipping are unlimited

Reimbursement covers the product price, the brand's declared shipping, and sales tax up to a buffer of 12%. It pays the lower of that cap and what you actually spent, so if you paid less than expected you get exactly what you paid. Where people get caught is expedited shipping they chose themselves, or a total that runs well past the cap because a code did not apply. Check the total before you confirm the order.

8. Not connecting a payout account

Your reimbursement can be approved and still have nowhere to go. Connecting a payout account takes a couple of minutes and is worth doing before your first campaign rather than after, so nothing sits waiting on you.

The two that matter most

Take the delivery photo, and apply the code. Those two account for most of the money that goes missing. And to be clear about the thing people most often assume: leaving a review is not on this list because it is not required, is never paid for, and makes no difference to whether you are reimbursed.
